Academic Programs
The Academic Programs housed on the third floor of the Idaho Commons all have as their central purpose the enrichment of our student's educational experiences. Student are welcome to visit the main reception desk at the Academic Assistance Programs Offices (room 306) for information about all programs, including services and hours of operation.
The programs that offer tutoring assistance use the tutoring labs located near the rear of the unit. All of the programs use the small testing rooms located throughout the unit, for their various operations. When not being used by the Academic Programs staff, the small testing rooms are available as study rooms; information about using these rooms for study is available at the Academic Assistance Programs main reception desk, 885-6307. The main reception desk is staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Honors Program
The University Honors Program is open to all students and serves a variety of students needs and interests. The program offers a diverse curriculum as well as concerts, plays, films, lectures and other excursions that provide opportunities for cultural enrichment, friendship and learning. The great majority of the 500 students currently active in the program are able to participate without adding to the total number of credits needed for graduation. Students who complete 27 credits in honors courses in specified areas with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better earn a University Honors Program Certificate. These distinctions are noted on an honors student's official transcripts. Center for Academic Advising
Following the urging of student leaders, the University of Idaho has opened the Center for Academic Advising. In addition to serving as a primary advising site for lower division General Studies majors, the Center acts as a clearing house for information - a place where students may go for help connecting to the appropriate academic department. As a "One-Stop Shop", the Center assists students in making connections accross campus in order to enhance their academic success and the quality of their academic experience at the University of Idaho. The Center builds on the UI's reputation as a caring, involved institution. The Center is located in rooms 138 & 139 of the Student Union Building. Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Office
The world renowned Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival happens every February on the University of Idaho Campus. Their administrative offices are now located on the first floor of the Student Union. Questions about the Jazz Festival can be directed to them at 885-6765. http://www.jazz.uidaho.edu/
Academic Assistance Programs (AAP)
Academic Assistance Programs is comprised of three programs which offer assistance for UI students. Tutoring and Learning Services, the university's central academic assistance program, provides services (primarily tutoring) for all University of Idaho students. Student Support Services provides tutoring and academic support/advising for UI students who meet federal eligibility criteria. Student Support Services
Student Support Services offers participating UI students the academic and personal support necessary to reach their post-secondary educational goals. This federally funded academic assistance program (TRIO) offers students opportunities to: identify and pursue educational and career goals; establish and improve academic performance work through the challenges of university life. SSS provides highly individualized assistance (including tutoring), which often makes the difference in a student's persistence with his/her educational plan. Student Disability Services
Disability Support Services (DSS) provides support services for students with temporary or permanent disabilities. Services include, but are not limited to, readers, note takers, sign language interpreters, disability parking and campus accessibility information, registration assistance, new student orientation, proctor and test-taking arrangements, or help with any other disability need. Statistics Assistance Center (SAC)

Career and Professional Planning (CAPP)

Writing Center
The Writing Center is a place where peer tutors work one-on-one with student writers. Our services are open to all UI students at no cost. Students come to the Center for help at various stages of the writing process. In a writing conference, tutors help students clarify their thinking and develop their ideas. Tutors also assist students find strategies for improving organization, grammar, and punctuation. They will work with any written piece, from essays and reviews, to research papers and resumes. The Writing Center provides a library of handbooks and style manuals, two student computers connected to the UI backbone, a collection of handouts about writing, and a comfortable place to sit, read, and write. The Writing Center offices are located on the third floor of the UI Commons building, main office room 323, on the north side of Academic Programs.
